FOA's GREEN INITIATIVE Recycle Your Refundable Beverage Containers At Friends of the Animals Since the first Earth Day in 1970, 2.3 trillion beverage containers have been wasted (landfilled, littered or incinerated) in the United States. This includes:
The negative impact this causes on our fragile environment is simply not acceptable. Friends of the Animals encourages everyone to please recycle your beverage containers and to please consider dropping off your refundable beverage containers at our shelter. All refundable bottles are recycled properly and the proceeds go directly to caring for our homeless pets until they find their forever-homes. Please contact us for more information. Did You Know? Did you know our website is powered by 100% renewable energy? Most people don't think about the connection between global warming and web hosting. The electricity consumed by data centers (where servers are stored) is globally equivalent to the production of 14 coal fired 1,000-megawatt power plants (click here for source). To give you some idea of how much electricity that is; a 1000-megawatt power plant can service the needs of a city the size of Boston or Seattle! When you take into account that traditional coal fired electricity generation spews around 1,970 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per megawatt-hour, you can get some idea of just how much an impact the hosting industry must have on global warming. Aside from the carbon dioxide, the main offender when it comes to global warming, coal power also generates other poisonous emissions such as mercury and sulfur dioxide. Friends of the Animals is proud to do our part to help battle global warming by using Thinkhost for our web hosting needs. Thinkhost uses only wind and solar energy to power their data centers. Not only that, they provide unbeatable customer service, plant a new tree for each new client, have great prices, and are just down right friendly folks. They also offer substantial discounts or free hosting options to non-profit (501c3) organizations. Please consider Thinkhost for your web hosting needs! Click here to visit Thinkhost. |
