Training & Behavior Help

We at Friends of the Animals want you and your pets to have a happy, healthy life together. Proper training and understanding how to deal with behavior issues are essential to maintaining a happy household with pets. On this page you will find articles and helpful links to assist you with some common problems so please be sure to check back often for updates. Please keep a few pointers in mind when dealing with your animal companions:

- It is never, ever, okay to strike an animal. Not with your hand, not with a rolled up newspaper, not with anything. Hitting is not discipline, it's abuse.

- It can be very frustrating when your pet is not following commands or listening to you, take a deep breath and walk away until you can deal with the problem calmly.

- Your pet should have a clean bill of health before starting any new training, your Veterinarian may have recommendations for vaccinations, diet changes, exercise restrictions, etc.

- Having your pets spayed or neutered will help them to be calmer and more well-behaved.

- If you are having problems with your adopted pet or pets please don't hesitate to contact us. Our volunteers are here to help you!

- Sudden behavior changes for no apparent reason can indicate an illness or injury, please consult your Veterinarian or contact us if you have recently adopted from our shelter.
